Scribeflow: drafting, revising and finishing in one place.

A writing platform built with Python, Django REST Framework, Angular, Redis, GraphQL and GCP, for writers who had been working across several tools and screen tabs to complete a single project. Drafting, revision and finalisation live in one environment, so the manuscript and the work of shaping it stay together.

The problem

The challenge.

  • Long-form writing had been split across a word processor, notes, research tabs and outlining tools, so the project existed as fragments with no authoritative version.
  • Writers move constantly between structure and prose, and tools that force a choice between the two interrupt exactly the state the work depends on.
  • The editor had to stay immediately responsive on documents that grow to book length, where naive implementations begin to lag noticeably.
  • Nothing may ever be lost, which makes durability and revision history a foundational requirement rather than a feature to add later.
The plan

Our approach.

  • Built the editing surface in Angular, treating perceived latency as the primary quality metric — in a writing tool, input lag is not a performance detail, it is the product failing.
  • Used GraphQL so the client fetches exactly the slice of a large document tree it needs, instead of over-fetching an entire manuscript to render one section.
  • Put Redis in front of the hot path for session and document state, keeping the interactions a writer performs constantly fast regardless of overall document size.
  • Modelled documents in Django REST Framework as structured trees rather than flat text, which is what makes outlining and prose two views of one object instead of two files.
  • Deployed on GCP with autosave and revision history designed in from the start, so recovering earlier work is a normal action rather than an incident.
The result

The outcome.

  • Drafting, restructuring and revision happen in one environment instead of across several tools.
  • The editor stays responsive as documents grow to full manuscript length.
  • Structure and prose are two views of the same document, so reorganising does not mean rewriting.
  • Revision history makes earlier versions retrievable as a routine action.

What partners
tell us.

Most clients renew for a second engagement. The ones who don't usually hire someone from our team to run the project in-house.

We are a mental health charity and not tech-minded. We needed to improve our patient registration system but wanted a company that we can relate to. Hassan took the time to meet with me and patiently went through our process to find a personalised solution for us. Hassan's team did a great job streamlining our process and connected our registration system to our patient management software. Whenever we have a glitch, they resolve this quickly. Enigmatix Global provides a personal and efficient service and we have adopted them to be our IT provider.

I am writing to wholeheartedly recommend Enigmatix Global as a premier bespoke software development agency. Our journey with them has been nothing short of exemplary, far exceeding our initial expectations. While many agencies can develop based on strict specifications, Enigmatix Global demonstrated an incredible commitment to our project that was truly unparalleled.

Dragonfly has been working with the team at Enigmatix Global for several years now on building out our web-based platform and APIs. One of their strengths is quickly building out a multi-disciplinary team to work on the development and delivery of features with different technical requirements. Their support has allowed us to accelerate our development work without building an internal team. They have also worked seamlessly with other third parties both during the acquisition of Dragonfly and development of our mobile app. Enigmatix Global has been instrumental in bringing our ideas to life and providing guidance to help us make the best technical decisions. I would recommend getting in touch with them if you're looking for support.

Frequently asked

Common questions, answered.

  • Yes. We provide software development, dedicated engineering teams, offshore development centres and staff augmentation for UK and US businesses. Our head office is in Rochdale, UK. US delivery is remote; we agree working-hour overlap and delivery responsibilities during discovery. Our US service-area pages describe the markets we serve, not US office locations.
