What counts as 'custom' software development?

Custom software development is bespoke engineering of backend services, data pipelines, integrations, admin tools, and embedded features. We build to your exact requirements, not by configuring a packaged SaaS product. We start from your domain model and deliver a system that encodes your business rules in code you own.

Do you own the code, or do I?

You own every line of code, every artefact, and all the IP from the first commit onwards. Our contract includes explicit IP transfer. You keep the repositories, documentation, and runtime access regardless of engagement status.

How do you choose the tech stack?

Stack choice follows the problem, the existing estate, and the team you'll operate it with. There's no vendor relationship on our side. If you're already on Java and AWS, we don't propose rewriting it in Go on GCP. If the problem warrants a new stack, we document the trade-offs before any code is written.

What does a typical engagement look like?

A typical engagement runs two to eight weeks of discovery (architecture, domain model, delivery plan), followed by two-week sprints with Friday demos and production deploys from week three or four. Most custom-software engagements run six to eighteen months. Longer ones continue as an ongoing partnership.

Can you work inside my existing codebase?

Yes. Most of our engagements add to an existing codebase rather than starting from scratch. We onboard to your conventions, linting rules, and review process in week one. Our engineers attend your architecture reviews and retrospectives from day one.

How do you handle quality and testing?

Every engagement has written quality gates in the statement of work. Unit-test coverage targets, static analysis rules, code-review SLAs, and release-quality thresholds. We also run end-to-end tests where the risk justifies them. If a quality gate slips, we fix it before the next release rather than after.

How does this differ from dedicated teams or staff augmentation?

Custom software development is the discipline, the thing that gets built. Dedicated teams, offshore development centres, and staff augmentation are the commercial models for how you engage us to do it. You can get custom software work under any of the three engagement shapes.
